WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS?

(CF)

Cystic Fibrosis is a fatal genetic disease (affecting mainly the lungs and digestive system) that affects both children and young adults. Every year, about one in every 2,500 children born in Canada has CF. Thanks to the advances in research and clinical care, more and more children with CF are surviving into adulthood. In 1960, children born with CF rarely lived four years. Today, in Canada, those with Cystic Fibrosis live well into their thirties and beyond. Nipissing University has been participating in Shinerama since 1970, and has collectively raised nearly $500,000 over the years!

Raise Awareness

Share posts and information from Shinerama.ca and CysticFibrosis.ca online or with friends and family. Sign petitions to help get funding for Cystic Fibrosis research, medicines, and advocacy.

Educate Yourself

It’s important to note that movies like “Five Feet Apart” does not depict everyone’s journey with Cystic Fibrosis and not every case is the same. Going to Shinerama.ca and CysticFibrosis.ca will help you understand the disease more. It is important to note that listening to people living with CF and their families is a great way to educate yourself further. Find out if there’s a family in your area living with Cystic Fibrosis that needs your support! By educating yourself, you can also be helping others.
