Frequently Asked Questions:

1. I start in January, am I covered by the health plan starting in September?

No, NUSU does not receive the ancillary fee to pay for your health plan until you have registered for courses and Nipissing has accepted your tuition and ancillary fee payment.

2. When should I expect my reimbursement after I opt-out?

By the end of the semester. Once we are informed by the insurance company that the reimbursement has been sent out, we will post on our social media to notify students.

3. How will I receive my reimbursement?

When completing the opt-out application, you can supply direct deposit information. By doing so, you will receive the reimbursement from ACL Student Benefits direct to your personal bank account. Once we are informed by the insurance company that the reimbursement has been sent out, we will post on our social media. If you did not sign up for direct deposit, a cheque will be mailed to the address you provided.

4. Why haven’t I received my reimbursement?

If the direct deposit information is not completed correctly, a cheque will be mailed to the address you provided.

5. What is a "Blackout" period?

From September 1-19, (January 1-20 for Winter semester start students), all students are offered the option to opt-out of the health plan. Students who choose not to opt-out are unable to submit claims until the blackout period has ended. To ensure the blackout period has officially ended, wait an additional two to five business days after September 19th before submitting any claims dated September 1-19.

6. Why isn’t my claim submitting?

If it is not currently the period between September 1st to 20th (Fall Semester Start Date Students) or January 1st to 20th (Winter Semester Start Date Students), please email health@nusu.com with the details regarding the failed submission. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
