There are many ways to get involved on campus.

NUSU

Director-at-Large
You can run in the elections and become a member of the NUSU Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is the highest-level decision-making body at NUSU. There are a total of fourteen Directors (4 Executives and 10 Directors-At-Large).

If you are interested in becoming a future Director-At-Large, contact president@nusu.com.

NUSU Crew
NUSU Crew is a volunteer group of Nipissing University students who are dedicated to informing the student body about issues impacting students, and events happening on campus. The goal of the crew is to encourage students to get involved and become student leaders on campus, develop connections through networking opportunities, and develop vital skills to help you grow as an individual. For more information, please email vpstudent@nusu.com

OWLS Leader
Each year, we host OWLS (Orientation Welcome Learning & Social) Week to provide a space for incoming students to build relationships with their peers and get to know all about the University. We have Team Leaders and event leaders that help us make this week an unforgettable one. For more information, please email vpstudent@nusu.com

Student Groups
Volunteer by being an executive on a Student Club or Society. Create your own or run in an election for a specific position. Each Student Group conducts its elections towards the end of the academic year to create the new team for the following term. For more information, please email vpstudent@nusu.com

Academic Senate Student Senator
The Academic Senate is involved in academic programming decisions, as well as a number of administrative and enrolment-related areas. There are Student Senator positions within Academic Senate.

These Senators represent the interests and welfare of the students at Nipissing University by providing a student perspective, opinion, and vote on numerous Senate subcommittees and Senate itself;

  • Arts & Science Student Senator,
  • Education & Professional Studies Student Senator, and
  • Graduate Studies Student Senator

Although NUSU runs the elections for these positions, they are actually under the University. For more information on how to get involved in Student Senate, contact the VP Advocacy & Awareness at vpadvocacy@nusu.com.

International Student Mentor
The International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP) is designed to help international students develop friendships and adjust to their new learning and living environment. The mentors at Nipissing University are students who volunteer their time to support international students. Some mentors may have studied abroad before and others might be interested in going overseas in the future, but all of them have an interest in meeting new people and learning about different cultures. The mentors are responsible for organizing trips, social events and activities for international students. For more information, please email internationalsupport@nipissingu.ca.

Peer Support Program
Drop-In: It is a peer-led wellness space where students can drop by and meet informally with other students, no commitment needed. Students get to know each other at their own pace, build connections based on mutual respect and trust, provide/receive nonjudgmental support and a listening ear. Trained Student Peer Supporters are available in the space to share wellness information, complete referrals, and assist with advocacy when needed.
